An Òtúrúpọn Ìretè story describes a house held by a single support. When Elegua asks for food, the owner asks him to hold that support while he goes to fetch okra. Good ripe okra is close by, but the owner does not want to give the better pieces. He walks farther to find smaller ones. The delay becomes longer than the temporary support arrangement can bear, and the house is lost. The modern mechanism is local optimization. A team may save a little money, inventory, effort, or concession while a much more valuable system is sitting on temporary support: an expiring exception, borrowed capacity, a contractor waiting, a migration window, or an interim workaround. Before optimizing the small input, price the waiting dependency. If the support window is critical, the cheapest local choice can become the most expensive system choice.
